Blog before and afters

Adulcia - Beneath the Surface

Claudia: I've done some changes to my blog's appearance since the Techy Workshop - I have a new background photo, I've tidied up my sidebar and I used my "world famous at around the table" crocheted bag as my new banner/heading. The photo Roz took of me on the Sunday Morning is my new mug shot (i.e. profile picture). I splashed out and got my own domain name www.adulcia.com. Something must have worked with all that because I now even have some paying adverts happening too now. (Which was unplanned, but when offered I thought why not). Content wise I'm still just playing that by ear - I post when I have something I want to write about. Looking forward to next year in Auckland.

Create Hope Inspire

Miriam: My blog looks really different and for me that came down to professional help! I emplyed Simone to do the things I couldn't do. I've also started using intense debate which I 'hope' makes commenting easier for non-bloggers. I'm trying to respond better to comments.

Hazel Loves Design

Hazel: Since Blogger's Connecting my blog has undertaken an evolution, initially a personal blog about all things 'design' the blog is now strictly focused on New Zealand's indie design community to bring it in line with the magazine. During Bloggers Connecting a comment was made that 'we need to treat our blog as our business', so I've invested in a re-design and have set about collaborating with like minded people creating 'The Sweet Rendezvous' and 'Indies Anonymous'. It is important to me that Hazel Loves Design becomes a place recognised for supporting New Zealand's hidden talent, so hopefully with these collaborations, the magazine and our new emporium this will all ring true and the blog will continue to grow into something special. I can't wait to see what I learn next year!

New Zealand It Is Then!

Maria: I looked at blogs with white backgrounds and thought, how easy it is to manage a color scheme like that - pop on an off-shaped icon and it blends in seamlessly. And one day I took it up and started changing mine: white background, rounded corners. Except... after about four hours of work I realised, that does not feel or look like me! And so I changed it back to what it was before. It actually feels... cosy now. The way it's colorful. Feels like... me.

On A Crafty Adventure

Amy: The most obvious change to my blog is the brand new header which I am still loving! After the conference I decided that a blog about being crafty should have a hand drawn header rather than a computer generated one. Especially since my editing skills are stuck in 2005! What even is Typography anyway?! I am still figuring out my plan for my blog, but for now it is my projects along with my life. I can't quite commit to one or the other so my readers will get the best of both worlds. Another thing that has changed since the conference is the way I view my blog and myself on social media. I am more active on Twitter and Instagram and added funky social media buttons on my blog. I also created a Facebook page specifically for my blog so my non-reader friends don't get spammed by me all the time. I haven't delved into the world of sponsors and advertising - yet. I don't think my blog - or I - are quite ready for the responsibility. It was really interesting to hear about how NZ is getting into using blogs for promotional purposes though. So no big giant world-altering changes here but just subtle differences that make things easier.

The Bubbalino Kitchen

Vanessa: I have made changes to The Bubbalino Kitchen and just launched my new blog this week. I have had the entire blog redesigned. I did this primarily because I want to attract advertisers and felt I needed a fresher/cleaner/more professional look to do so. I also changed to self-hosting my blog to enable more creative control and after meeting the immensely talented and uber-lovely Jen from Utterly In Love at Around the Table, I enlisted her mad skills to do what was necessary, and am SO thrilled with the results. In short, the whole thing has changed!

This Mum Rocks

Heather: Who's still got their Blogging Mojo 8 weeks post Bloggers Connecting? Surprisingly, me! I went into the conference with This Mum Rocks needing a makeover. With the recent shift to CHCH, the blog has shifted gears also. It used to be a parenting blog that supported a radio programme catering to Wairarapa parents. Post Around the Table, This Mum Rocks is a blog about op shopping with an international audience that likes to comment on my weekly show & tell posts, entertaining proposals from PR companies. Since the get together I have started taking This Mum Rocks more seriously. Being careful not to bite off more than I can chew, I've started working on techie things like the quality of my photos (Thanks Talia and Meghan for hosting the techie workshop), privacy and my online reputation and what's a good fit for This Mum Rocks. (Hmm, do I really want to put those words/images on my blog). All the while trying to keep it real: I've got a warped sense of humor, it's gonna show through. Looking forward to the next Bloggers Connecting...it was Auckland wasn't it? Hmmm that could be fun!

  1. Hi this is a lovely idea, and it's great to see people rethinking their blogs... but I'm a little offended to tell the truth! My Blog Sew La Tea and Hello Lemming are complete different blogs, one of which I just stopped (Sew La tea). Also I had them both designed BEFORE the conference!!! So my blogs do not have a place on this list I'm afraid. I am proud of having work out all of my design tricks myself :P
Ps, is it just me or some of those before and afters look the same? XD

    1. Kim, would you like to write a little blurb then and explain it all :)

    2. Hi Kim, my blog has changed before and after, but not at all because of the conference. I think the point is that every blog's own story is fully relevant regardless of the fact that it may or may not have been influenced by the conference.
Yup, some are the same. And that's cool too :)

  3. I love seeing the before and afters - and I'm more than happy to to help anyone wanting to refresh their blog with some "professional" design help. Quid pro quo, even - I'm after some bunting... wanna swap bunting for a blog makeover anyone??
