My name is Maria. I blog at newzealanditisthen.blogspot.co.nz
How long have you been blogging for? In English? For a few months only so far, but I've been blogging in Estonian since 2004.
Where do you live? I live up in the hills near Christchurch, in an old moody house with creaky floors, wobbly windows and heartwarming views across the harbour. There are lots of animals - none of them mine - who are on a constant lookout for food, so I'm on a constant lookout for imminent trouble: a goat getting into kitchen and eating my bananas, chickens getting in and pooping on laundry floor (one day I found one nesting in our bedding cupboard), cattle leaning against my car and squashing the mirrors. Sometimes I blog about it, but most of the time I just tell these stories to my friends and then we laugh.
What are 5 words that describe your blog? Self-centered? I don't know, I haven't got a theme going yet. Maybe Old House can describe some of it. And The Kid, another part.
Why did you decide to come to this get together? I'm making a point of being (more) social. An effort to being (more) social.
What do you most hope to take away from the weekend? Lots of laughter and insight into others who blog.
What is your biggest hurdle to coming? I'm not very, how do I put it... domestic(ated), so attending a craft market, swapping gifts and making bunting felt too soft and cheesy - well, for a while it did, anyway. But now I've told myself to grow some balls and go do it, and have fun, and so here I am.
Do you know any of the other bloggers who are coming? I've met Treena from mrsaldridge.blogspot.co.nz and Rach from lyallii.blogspot.co.nz.
What is the best thing about blogging? The contacts I've made over the years. In Estonia, my blog hooked me up with a writing career which, in turn, provided not only food for thought and income, but also diverse experiences. When I learned to ride a motorcycle (and ended up in a hospital as a result), I wrote about it, when I went sailing, I wrote about it. After a while I had editors intentionally set me up with exciting assignments. It was awesome!
Would you describe yourself as an introvert or an extrovert? Depends. Both. I get very loud, flamboyant (and sometimes enthusiastic to a point of being obnoxious) when I'm around people I'm comfortable with. If I don't 'get' people, I meld in with a wall, any wall.
If you were to participate in a reality TV show or competition TV show – what would it be? And why? Sorry, I haven't got a TV at home, so I don't even know what's running. But if I think about stuff I've seen before... I would've felt very privileged to have been part of the crew that produced "South". It was one stunning show.
We feel very blessed to have her on board :o)
